Mr. Albert Doskey, instructor at Fisher More College, was recently published in the Christmas 2012 edition of The Latin Mass (www.latinmassmagazine.com). Concerning his article, Faith, Theology, and the Theologian: A Popular Introduction, his motivations for writing, and the sources from whom he draws, Professor Doskey explains:

I wrote the article that appears in The Latin Mass for various reasons, some personal, some professional, but I wrote it as I do most of my writing, for myself. I wanted to make sure that I understood well its content and so I wrote on it. I am aspiring to be a theologian and to be a good one – Deo volente – but what does that mean? Well, what is it to do theology? To answer this question requires an understanding of what faith is, which is the absolutely necessary source of all theology and which is not some subjective belief that people happen to hold, and what a science is, of which theology is one.

Of course, in answering these questions, in coming to the right judgments, I am not starting from scratch; I have predecessors. I leaned on and learned from them. Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P., one theologian from whom I draw, of course, is a rock of the “perennial” Thomist theology, but I needed to compare and contrast, and so I also chose Chenu, O.P., his pupil, who has in the theological world a very different reputation than his teacher, yet he too was a pupil of Thomas and considered himself such. Chenu has a certain historical awareness, which even if it has limitations and difficulties, is appreciated.

There is the second part of the article that draws from the same two men about charity and theology; this topic really deserves its own article, in which the positive role of charity and the gifts of the Spirit are considered, but that is not this article. I simply wanted to make clear that charity is of great importance but not of absolute necessity for the acts of theology.

Finally, I note that while I wrote the article for myself, I also then edited it for others. If it were not shared, then perhaps it could remain in my “semi-private” language, but I wanted to share it.

Read Professor Doskey’s article here! Faith, Theology, and the Theologian: A Popular Introduction

In a celebration of Catholic culture, Fisher More College featured Professor Professor of Theology Karl Strauch at its 3rd Year of Faith Event.

Professor Strauch’s talk was on the prophesied future universal reign of Christ the King and how it relates to the current geopolitical climate.

“For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.”

In 1675, Our Lord appeared in Paray-le-Monial, France, to Saint Marguerite Marie Alacoque promising her the reign of His Sacred Heart. “Fear nothing, I will reign in spite of My enemies and of those who endeavor to oppose me. This Sacred Heart will reign in spite of Satan and of all those whom he raises up to oppose it.” Saint Marguerite heard Him repeating the following sentence to her: “Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words shall not fail.” Those words uttered by Our Lord over three centuries ago were, in fact, a divine confirmation of the passionate and apocalyptic cry by the Apostle to the Nations: Oportet autem illum regnare donec ponat omnes inimicos sub pedibus eius (1 Corinthians 15:25).

LISTEN TO THE AUDIO RECORDING OF PROFESSOR STRAUCH’S TALK

The dominant error, the capital crime of the last centuries has been the pretension by world leaders to subtract the public domain from the rule and the law of God. Consequently, the fundamental principle underlying the whole modern, social edifice is tantamount to legal and institutional atheism. Men wish to “save” themselves without God. They have made such claims their battle cry and leitmotif. Having forgotten and ultimately denied the divine destiny of man, the modern world, in spite of its prodigious scientific achievements, is plunged into the deepest confusion and anguish which is symptomatic of its moral and spiritual misery.

They have rendered all to Caesar and nothing to God. They ignore the true characteristics of the social kingship of Jesus Christ, a reign of truth and life; a reign of holiness and grace; a reign of justice, love and peace.

The Church Unity Octave extends from January 18th until January 25th (inclusive) with the intention being Unity of the entire Catholic Church. In 1897, Pope Leo XIII asked for Catholics to pray for Christian unity and established the continual recitation of a novena. The Church Unity Octave was originally approved and blessed by Pope St. Pius X in 1909. The dates of the Octave were set for January 18 to 25, beginning with the date of the Confession (or Chair) of St. Peter and ending on the Conversion of St. Paul. Pope Benedict XV extended its observance to the Universal Church on February 25, 1916. Although it is optional for observance, unless ordered by the local Ordinary, it is highly recommended. (Ench. Indul.: n. 622).

The students, faculty, staff, and friends of Fisher More College will recite the prayers of the Octave after Mass from Friday, January 18 through Friday, January 25, and we continue to pray daily for our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI.

The staff and faculty of Fisher More College welcome back all our returning and new transfer students as we get ready for an exciting 2013.

The Spring semester begins on Tuesday, January 22, and it will be the last at our current (and original) location on Lubbock Avenue in the University Place district of Fort Worth. The College will move to our new campus at the historic Our Lady of Victory (OLV) building at 801 West Shaw Street, Fort Worth, 76110 in time for the Fall 2013 semester. We are excited about assisting at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the beautiful chapel at OLV. The students look forward to improved accommodations and classrooms, as well as more space for study and leisure activities.

To read more about the history of our new campus, please read about our inspiring Restoration project.

The College gives thanks to Almighty God for the gift of our students and our new campus, and we anticipate a joyful year as we begin the transition to our OLV home.
